Ken Honborg, MBA
Ken has a wealth of knowledge and over 25 years of hotel experience.
During that time he has worked throughout many different departments and aspects of the hotel industry, such as Director of Sales, Regional Marketing Director and as General Manager in prestigious properties such as Banff Springs Hotel, Chateau Lake Louise, Chateau Lacombe and the Royal York.
More recently, Ken has moved out of the operational side of hotels and has been working and developing software management systems. He is currently the President of DSC Hotel Systems.
Through it all, Ken has seen the ins and outs of hotels and his well-respected reputation is known not only across Vancouver, but shines throughout the whole international hotel industry.
Based on his expertise and experience in the field, Ken was approached by the Vancouver School Board to join them in creating a program for educating hoteliers based on the AHLA curriculum. It was here that Ken found his true passion for teaching. That led him to work as Dean of a local hotel management college and then start his own college so that he may continue doing what he loves best: educating future generations of hoteliers.

Lutz was born in Germany, but received most of his education in England. He later went on to get a double degree in Hotel Management, and Economics from the former Catering College Bad Reichenhal, now known as Steigenberger Hotel University in Munich. Upon Graduation, Lutz moved to Canada and spent his first 3 years in Toronto working as an assistance Banquet Manager, and then moved to Vancouver, which is where he really became recognized for this food and beverage and management skills.
Over the next 22 years, Lutz's hospitality career blossomed. Lutz spent 3 years at Hotel Vancouver, before becoming General Manager for multiple hospitality establishments throughout BC, such as: Medieval Inns, W.W.F Holdings ltd, 1066 Restaurant, Capilano Suspension Bridge Bridgehouse Restaurant & Canyon House and was the Director of Operations for the Best Western Pacific Inn Resort & Conference Centre.
Lutz quickly became known for his great leadership and management skills not only in British Columbia, but all over Canada. His drive, vision and knowledge for Food and Beverage, Sales and the Hotel industry was highly respected and sought after. He exceeded expectations with his brilliant ability to turn businesses profitable and continued to be a leader in the industry.
In 1998, Lutz became the Food & Beverage Director for Executive Hotels & Resorts, where he stayed for 5 years. Here, he had a diverse role, which included developing new menus for the chain, upgrading service standards, increasing sales, training and development for department heads. He was responsible for many millions per annum in Food and Beverage revenue, which included an instrumental role in securing a 9 year contract for the RCMP Chilliwack University.
Lutz then moved beyond Food and Beverage, and back into the Hotel Management side, and in 2003, took on the position as Assistant General Manager/ Acting General Manager for Harrison Hot Springs Resorts. He spent 3 years in Harrison, building and developing sales and conference packages, and exceeded expected sales and profitability for the 3 years by a considerable margin. Directly due to Lutz's efforts, Harrison Resort & Spa is now able to book large conventions utilizing Exhibit space and Food and Beverage, which has positioned the resort as a favorable convention and meeting destination in the area. They continue to benefit from the training and packages developed and implemented by Lutz.
After spending another 5 years with Executive Hotels & Resorts, Lutz decided to take his experience and share it in the classroom setting where he has inspired many young hospitality professionals and have helped to guide them to successful careers.
We are very excited to have Lutz join our team at Executive Hotel Management Collage. He will be teaching our Food Beverage courses as well as overseeing our Meeting, Event and Catering department.

While growing up in Lyon France, Ken's determination, hard work ethic and motivation was evident at an early age, as Ken has always excelled and exceeded expectations in everything he sets his mind to.
In 2008, Ken received his Baccalaureate, majoring in Business/Marketing, where he topped his class and graduated with the highest GPA from the 'the top 20' French Business Schools and obtained school honours in 8 successive terms. Not only was he top of his studies, Ken was also working hard as a Sales Advisor for Easy Cash. He had a variety of tasks including online support, sales consultant, sales advisor, purchaser and received "Employee of the Month" not once, but 9 times throughout the 2 years he was with the company.
Upon graduation, Ken decided to go for his Higher National Diploma (HND), Majoring in Negotiations and Client Acquaintances. During this time, Ken focused on the finance industry, and worked as a Wealth Management Advisor for Ag2r La Mondiale. Here, out of the 3,500 employees, Ken was not only a leader, but the youngest Financial Advisor in the company. Ken learned a great deal about the customer service industry, while also managed over 250 clients' investments through complex financial solutions.
After receiving his HND, Ken, wanted to diversify and get more international experience. He then left France and traveled to Canada, where he attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in Vancouver, receiving the Provost Scholarship. Ken once again excelled in his studies, while still developing new skills in a new industry: hospitality. Ken quickly adapted to the new challenges, of being the Assistant Manager Of the Victorian Hotel, Downtown Vancouver and saw great potential within this industry. His hard work and dedication to both staff and customers was recognized, as he was awarded with the "Best Employee of the year in 2011".
In 2011, Ken teamed up with his university's (Fairleigh Dickinson University) Marketing team. Not only praised for his excellent written and communication skills, he was also responsible for developing and analyzing the European Market, developing long lasting ESL School and Agent partnerships, supporting the immigration process, housing requests & loan inquiries. He was directly responsible for bring new international partnerships and students to the university.
For the past couple of years, while Ken focused on his Bachelors in Business Administration, he worked in Mergers & Acquisition, starting off as a Sales Executive, and then moving into the position of Business Developer. Ken continued to develop his customer service skills, while also overseeing quality control, sales strategy and analytics, and developed the marketing material.
Now Ken is combining his years of sales, marketing, recruitment, hospitality and customer service skills, and has taken on the position of Director of Admissions & Recruitment at Executive Hotel Management College. He is thrilled to be part of this new venture and assisting in the overall growth and success of the college.

A unique combination of Academic studies, based on 12 management courses based on the curriculum of the internationally recognized Educational Institute of American Hotel and Lodging Association and 4 P.B.D. In addition, you will be in a work environment for 30 weeks in order to gain a valuable experience in a Professional and Executive Environment
The Dual Hotel/Food & Beverage Management Program is intensive as well as comprehensive. Building on the foundation provided in the one year program. In the space of two years, students will complete a total of 16 courses, based on the curriculum created by the Educational Institute of American Hotel and Lodging Association, which will allow them to gain the knowledge and master the skills needed in both Hotel and Food & Beverage Management. This vibrant introduction to hospitality consists of 6 courses that can be completed in 2 or 3 sections and is ideally suited for students with limited time in Vancouver.
